New Delhi : The voice of resent against Citizenship (Amendment) Bill rocked New Delhi as the members of North East Students protest rocked here in Delhi’s Jantar Mantar.

“We are warning Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP-led NDA government at the Centre against the influx of illegal migrants in the Northeastern states,” said AASU chief adviser Dr Samujjal Kr Bhattacharya.

The citizenship Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha to amend the Citizenship Act, 1955. The Bill amends the Citizenship Act, 1955 to make illegal migrants who are Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan, eligible for citizenship.
“We want the Joint Parliamentary Committee to hear all the voices from the Northeastern states on the Citizenship Bill,” said Samuel Jawra, chairman, NESO.
North East Students protest in Delhi
The NESO comprises of Khasi Students’ Union, All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), Naga Students’ Federation, Mizo Zirlai Pai, Twipra Students’ Federation, All Manipur Students’ Union, Garo Students’ Union and All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union. The NESO also announced new agitation programmes to demand withdrawal of the Bill.
