The Mumbai Police filed a complaint against then-BJP leader Nupur Sharma for allegedly uttering offensive remarks about Prophet Muhammad on television.
Digital Desk: Sanjay Pandey, the city police commissioner, said on Monday that Nupur Sharma, a suspended BJP leader, will be summoned to state in connection with the FIR filed against her for allegedly making disparaging remarks about Prophet Muhammad.
Addressing the press at Mumbai Police headquarters, the city police commissioner stated, "An FIR was already registered against Nupur Sharma in Pydhonie police station. We will call her to record her statement as per law and the legal procedure will be followed".
On May 28, the Mumbai Police filed a complaint against Nupur Sharma, the then-BJP spokeswoman, for allegedly uttering derogatory remarks about Prophet Muhammad during a television news debate, based on a complaint filed by Irfan Sheikh, joint secretary of the Muslim organisation Raza Academy.
Ms Sharma was charged under sections 295A (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs), 153A (promoting enmity between groups), and 505(2) (statements conducive to public mischief) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), according to police.
On June 5, Nupur Sharma was suspended from the BJP for allegedly insulting the Prophet, which garnered outrage from various Islamic countries.
Meanwhile, Mr Pandey stated that illegal dance bars will not be permitted to operate in Mumbai and that those who break the rules will face severe consequences.

According to Mr Pandey, police officials have been instructed to deal harshly with illegal dance clubs if they are found to be breaking the law.
Mr Pandey stated that the Mumbai Police Department would impose a rule requiring two-wheeler pillion riders to wear a helmet.
"This rule will be strictly enforced, and violators will face legal consequences," he added.
