Digital Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to legendary vocalist Lata Mangeshkar on her birth day on Wednesday. He stated that a chowk in Ayodhya will be named after her as a worthy homage to her.
He wrote on Twitter, "On the occasion of Lata Didi's birth anniversary, we remember her. I remember so much about them—the countless interactions in which she showered so much affection. I am delighted that a Chowk in Ayodhya will be dedicated to her today. It is an appropriate homage to one of India's greatest symbols."
Lata Mangeshkar, who was born in 1929, reigned in the world of playback singing for decades. She passed away in February of this year.
On the eve of her 93rd birth anniversary on September 28, Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy stated on Tuesday that he will attend the inauguration ceremony of an intersection in Ayodhya named for iconic singer Lata Mangeshkar.
Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, decided to name the Ayodhya Chowk after the Bharat Ratna recipient, who died on February 6 from multiple organ failure. At the crossroads, a 14-ton veena sculpture 40 feet long and 12 metres high was placed.
In a tweet, the Union Culture and Tourism Minister also uploaded a video with graphic pictures of the chowk's new look.
Ram Sutar, a Padma Shri Awardee, created the massive sculpture.
Lata Mangeshkar began her career at the age of 13 in 1942. Over the course of her seven-decade career, the melody queen recorded songs for over a thousand Hindi films. She had her songs recorded in over 36 regional Indian and other languages. She is referred to as the "Queen of Melody" and "India's Nightingale."
