Imphal : As the protest against the contentious Citizenship Bill protest continues to gain momentum across the North-East with many allies of BJP too supporting North East in the fight against Citizenship Bill, Manipur’s Anti-Citizenship Bill body has intensified the fight further by announcing to “Boycott” Hindi language, symbols of Indian Union, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh “with immediate effect”.

Speaking to the media, the MPACAB has also announced to intensify protest against the Citizenship Bill. “The Bill tended to treat indigenous people as second class citizens while openly embracing foreign immigrants,” the MPACAB said as quoted in Nagaland Post.
The MPACAB is a conglomeration of 72 civil society organizations, claimed that the Centre was working to pass Bill as a supplementary Bill either on February 6th or 7th, 2019 at the Rajya Sabha.

Several indigenous bodies took put mass rally and staged demonstrations to protest against the Bill. It may be recalled the Republic Day was celebrated amid a boycott call by five major civil society organizations of the state against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill. Mizoram governor Kummanam Rajasekharan on January 26th, 2019 addressed almost an empty venue on the occasion of the 70th Republic Day.
On January 30th, 2019, over 200 students from Manipur gathered at Jantar Mantar to demand the scrapping of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, saying that it posed a “threat” to the Northeastern states. The protesters were joined by students from Tripura and Manipur students’ Association Delhi. The agitators also burnt the replica of the Bill.
