Potential Dual Run: Rahul Gandhi Reportedly Considering Contest From Amethi Too, Central Committee Signals Local Congress Body

Rahul Gandhi is expected to throw his hat into the ring for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Amethi

Digital Desk: In the bustling political arena of Amethi, Rahul Gandhi and Smriti Irani are gearing up for what promises to be an intense electoral showdown. With nominations anticipated next week, the stage is set for a fiery clash between the Congress and BJP stalwarts.

Rahul Gandhi is expected to throw his hat into the ring for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Amethi, with a decision looming post-April 26 and nominations soon to follow. On the other side, the BJP has once again put forward Smriti Irani as their candidate for Amethi, marking her third consecutive run for the seat.

When asked about his candidacy in Amethi, Rahul Gandhi deferred to the party's decision-making process, highlighting that the final call rests with the party's Central Election Committee. The battleground is set for May 20, with both contenders gearing up for a fierce face-off.

The rivalry between Rahul Gandhi and Smriti Irani in Amethi currently stands at one win each. Gandhi had represented the constituency from 2004 to 2019 until Irani clinched victory in the last elections. In 2014, Gandhi emerged victorious over Irani, but in 2019, the tables turned in Irani's favour.

Amethi's historical allegiance to the Congress and Smriti Irani's persistent presence pose a formidable challenge to Rahul Gandhi. The sentiments of the electorate seem divided between the two contenders, adding an extra layer of anticipation to the electoral contest.

Ajay Rai, Uttar Pradesh's Congress chief, remains steadfast in his belief that the Gandhi family has a secure grip on the Amethi seat, promising clarity on the matter soon. He has also accused Smriti Irani of spreading falsehoods over the past decade. As the BJP strives to uphold its promises and retain the seat, it faces the uphill task of navigating through a fiercely contested electoral terrain.
