Shillong : Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar reached here in Shillong, Meghalaya, who will appear before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today for questioning related to the Saradha Scam in West Bengal.
The top cop will appear before the agency for the investigation in the Saradha and Rose Valley chit fund scams. The CBI has alleged that the 1989 batch IPS officer has tampered with evidence. The Supreme Court of India directed the Kolkata Police Chief to “faithfully” corporate with the entire investigation procedure and to appear before the agency in Shillong while making it clear that he will not be arrested. A CBI team from Delhi has already reached Shillong to question him.
The Top Court had fixed Shillong as the venue for his interrogation, saying that its “neutral” status will prevent unnecessary controversy.
A major controversy had broken out last week when a team of CBI officers went to Kumar’s residence to question the Kolkata Police Chief. The CBI officials, on the other hand, faced stiff resistance from the Kolkata police. Following this, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee staged a three-day protest to “save the Constitution”.
