Sonbhadra : While on her way to meet the kin of the victims of the Sonbhadra firings where the district police had allegedly shot down the village head and his men over a land dispute, the police detained Priyanka Gandhi on her way and prevented her from meeting the victims.
The police later took away Priyanka Gandhi in their jeep when the reporters asked her whether she has been arrested to which she affirmatively replied with “ji”.
Later Priyanka Gandhi along with Congress workers sat on a Dharna on route to Mirzapur after she wasn’t allowed to meet the victims.
Priyanka Gandhi was quoted saying, “We have been stopped. I am asking them to show me the order or law under which it is being done. I am telling them I will go only with four people (permissible assembly under section 144). I only want to meet the victims’ families.”
Soon after her arrest, former Congress president Rahul Gandhi was quick to comment on the arrest of Ms. Vadra as disturbing and arbitrary application of power of the UP government.
Other senior Congress leaders were quick to respond to the entire incident and wanted a stringent action against the police men who detained Ms. Vadra who had just wanted to meet the victims of the Sonbhadra firings.
