Shashi Tharoor calls “BJP’s 400 Paar A Joke,” claims even “300 Paar Impossible”

Tharoor said that the BJP will fail in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh, faring worse than it did in the South in 2019

Digital Desk: Shashi Tharoor, a prominent Congress leader, dismissed the BJP's ambitious electoral claims, stating that achieving '400 paar' is a joke and '300 paar' is impossible. He asserted that even reaching '200 paar' would pose a challenge for the ruling party. Tharoor confidently predicted a BJP defeat in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, particularly in states like Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh, where he anticipates the BJP will secure zero seats.

In an interview with Press Trust of India editors at the agency's headquarters, Mr Tharoor also said that the BJP will fail in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh, faring worse than it did in the South in 2019.

Reflecting on the current political landscape, Tharoor highlighted a lack of enthusiasm among BJP voters compared to previous elections. He expressed optimism about the Congress and its alliance's performance in Hindi-speaking states based on initial polling results, indicating a potential shift in the political tide.

Tharoor emphasised the BJP's economic and national security track records, suggesting that these issues might not resonate with voters as they did in previous elections. He criticised the BJP's reliance on religious polarisation as an electoral strategy, arguing that it no longer appeals to neutral voters.

Regarding the election process, Tharoor questioned the Election Commission's decision to extend the electoral period until June 4, deeming it unnecessary and calling for a more streamlined approach.
