Lucknow : Actor turned politician Poonam Sinha and wife of Shatrughan Sinha will is all set to contest elections against Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh from the Lucknow Lok Sabha seat. As per reports, Poonam Sinha, wife of Shatrughan Sinha will contest on the Samajwadi Party (SP) against Rajnath Singh. The decision is said to be the joint decision taken by the alliance partners BSP-SP in a meeting held recently.

This will be the first-ever elections for the Bollywood actor Poonam Sinha. She has acted in hundreds of films during his career.
Poonam Sinha, who was crowned Miss Young Indian in 1968, was married to actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha in 1980. She had last appeared as the mother of Hrithik Roshan in fiolm Jodhaa Akbar in 2008. Both Poonam Sinha and Shatrughan Sinha have twin sons and a daughter.

Poonam Sinha’s face for the SP in the forthcoming elections will be a challenge for the alliance itself to field Poonam against BJP stalwart Rajnath Singh.
Meanwhile, the Congress has not named any candidate for the Lucknow Lok Sabha seat so far. The party had fielded Rita Bahuguna Joshi as the Congress candidate against Rajnath Singh. She, however, lost the seat by more than 2 lakh votets. Later, Rita Bahuguna Joshi joined the BJP in 2016.
Rajnath Singh had won the Lucknow seat by garnering a huge margin of 5,61,106 votes. Lucknow Lok Sabha constituency is one of the 80 Lok Sabha constituencies in Uttar Pradesh state. The seat was earlier represented by former prime minister late Atal Bihari Vajpayee from 1991-2009.

Recently, BJP had announced that Rajnath Singh will contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from Lucknow. The SP-BSP have yet to announce the Poonam Sinha’s debut.
