Digital Desk: Six people died and two others were seriously injured after a speeding pick-up vehicle crashed into them on Saturday in Chitrakoot, in Uttar Pradesh.
According to reports, the Chitrakoot Additional Superintendent of Police, Shailendra Rai, said the jeep carrying tomatoes ran over eight people in Rauli Kalyanpur village around 6.30 am.
The deceased were identified as Naresh (35), Arvind (21), Ramswaroop (25), Chhakka (32), Somdutt (25), and Bhanupratap (32).
On the other hand, the injured, reportedly identified as Bhagwandas (45) and Ramnarayan (50), are in serious condition, police said.
Notably, Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, offered his condolences for the fatalities in the accident, according to a statement from the state government. The chief minister has announced that 50,000 will go to the injured and 2 lakh will go to the families of the deceased. According to the Chief Minister's office, officials have been told to take strict action against the pick-up truck driver.
