Solar Eclipse 2022: Check out the timings, do's & don'ts you must follow

Digital Desk: Today (April 30) is the first partial Solar Eclipse of the year 2022. After 15-days of Solar Eclipse, another amazing celestial event, the Lunar Eclipse, will occur on May 16. According to Hindu Mythology, people are expected to follow do's and don'ts throughout the total eclipse.

On April 30, the partial Solar Eclipse will begin at 12:15 pm (IST) and will run until 4 pm. The Solar Eclipse, however, will not be visible in India. People can see the celestial phenomenon in South/West America, the Pacific, Atlantic and Antarctica.

What is a Solar Eclipse, and how does it happen?

A Solar Eclipse is a celestial occurrence that occurs when the Moon passes between Earth and the Sun, casting a shadow on Earth. According to reports,  just 54% of the Sun would be hidden during the eclipse.

The Solar Eclipse will be live-streamed on NASA's YouTube page and can be viewed via NASA's live broadcast.

Some Traditional beliefs followed by the people during Solar Eclipse are mentioned below: 

During the Grahan or eclipse in India, people normally choose to stay indoors and avoid eating anything. To mitigate the Grahan's negative effects, Darbha grass or Tulsi leaves are added to food and water. Many people believe that they should take a bath after the eclipse and change their clothes.

Many households in the country also engage in the tradition of chanting mantras devoted to the sun god.

Pregnant women, in particular, are advised to stay home and repeat the Santana Gopala Mantra.

During the eclipse, many people refrain from drinking water.

Food preparation and eating are also restricted during the Grahan. Many people also resist doing any auspicious activity.
