Sourav Ganguly Discusses Close Bonds With Mamata Banerjee After Dinner With Amit Shah

Digital Desk: A day after Union
Home Minister Amit Shah paid a surprise visit to his home and had dinner with
his family, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly spoke out on Saturday about his tight
relationship with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who is a vocal opponent of
    the BJP.

    Mr
Ganguly, the former captain of the Indian cricket team, also praised Minister
and City Mayor Firhad Hakim, describing him as someone who can be contacted at
    any time of day.

    "Mamata
Banerjee, our honourable Chief Minister, is a good friend of mine. I had asked
her about assisting with the establishment of this institute "At the
inauguration of a private hospital here, he added.

Mr. Shah's Friday visit to Mr.
Ganguly's home fueled rumours that the former cricketer will enter politics
shortly. Mr Ganguly and his wife Dona Ganguly, as well as the cricketer's older
brother Snehasish Ganguly and other family members, hosted the dinner.

    Mr Shah
was joined by Swapan Dasgupta, a BJP idealogue, Sukanta Majumdar, the party's
state president, and Suvendu Adhikari, the West Bengal assembly's Leader of
    Opposition.

    Mr Ganguly, aware of the
rumours, said on Friday, "Many theories abound, but I've known him (Shah)
since 2008. I used to run across him while playing. That's all there is to it
    ",

    He also
mentioned working with Shah's son, Jay Amitbhai Shah, at the Indian Board of
Control for Cricket. The secretary of the BCCI is Jay Shah.
