Digital Desk: The Indian equity indices, NSE Nifty and BSE Sensex closed lower on Thursday. The NSE Nifty ended below the 23,550 mark, while the BSE Sensex dropped to 528 Points.
Digital Desk: The fugitive businessman Vijay Mallya is currently
residing in London, and the Supreme Court will issue its ruling in a 2017 Supreme Court against him for failing to provide information to the court next
week.
On Monday, the order would be issued by a bench of Justices UU
Lalit, PS Narasimha, and Ravindra S Bhat. On March 10, the bench had placed the
case's order under reservation.
Due to the businessman's illegal transfer of USD 40 million to
his children in defiance of the court's ruling, the Supreme Court found him in
contempt of court and repeatedly requested his appearance.
The top court gave Vijay Mallya a final two-week window on
February 10 to personally appear or be represented by counsel in the contempt
case brought against him; if he does not, the court would proceed to the next
reasonable step.
Vijay Mallya was found guilty on two counts: failing to disclose
assets and disobeying Karnataka High Court express directions of restriction.
The top court last year decided to proceed with the hearing
on the severity of the sentence in the contempt case against Vijay Mallya
despite the fact that it had waited "long enough" and couldn't
"wait further today."
The government is making every effort and trying its best to
extradite Vijay Mallya, but the Center has notified the top court that legal
difficulties in the United Kingdom are blocking that.
The court has rejected Vijay Mallya's request for a review
of the judgement declaring him in contempt from May 2017.
