Under CJI Lalit, the Supreme Court resolves 1.8k matters in 4 days.

     Digital Desk: Since Chief Justice
of India (CJI) Uday Umesh Lalit took over a week ago with a promise to
introduce an institutional mechanism so that the top court is able to hear and
decide the maximum number of cases each day, more than 1,800 cases have been
resolved by the Supreme Court in the first four working days.

    The Chief Justice of
India (CJI) gave an overview of the Supreme Court's performance in the first
week following the implementation of a new listing and hearing system on Monday
under his administrative guidance at a felicitation event hosted by the Bar
    Council of India.

    "I would want to
tell you about something that occurred over the past four days. In comparison
to the period before to my taking charge, we have been listing items that are
far more numerous. The data have been presented to me by my secretary general.
Justice Lalit informed the group of attorneys that the court had resolved 1,293
different cases in the previous four days.

    According to figures
reviewed by HT, of the 1,293 cases, 493 miscellaneous matters were resolved on
August 29 - the first working day after CJI Lalit took over - and 315
additional cases were decided on Friday. On Tuesday and Thursday, respective
dispositions of 197 and 228 various instances were made. Because it being

    Justice Lalit
emphasised throughout his speech that the highest court might also consider 106
cases from normal hearings in two days. Regular hearing proceedings are
three-judge bench cases that either demand lengthy deliberations or have been
sitting in cold storage for a long time without being listed.

    Regular hearing cases
are now scheduled before three-judge benches on Tuesday through Thursday. 48
regular hearing cases were resolved on Thursday, compared to 58 of these
    instances on Tuesday.

    In addition to
dismissing 440 transfer applications since Monday, Justice Lalit stated,
"You can easily imagine that the courts are now paying more and more focus
to resolution of ordinary affairs." "This is how the number looks,"
he said, "and this is what we are always working toward and trying to
attain." On Tuesday and Thursday, decisions on a sizable number of
    transfer petitions were made.

In order to live up to
people's expectations during his brief 74-day term as Chief Justice of India,
Justice Lalit stated that the Supreme Court would attempt to decide as many
    cases as feasible.
