Varanasi: The people of Varanasi have found a unique way to fight the prices of onions. Samajwadi Party’s youth wing are keeping the Aadhar cards of the people as a mortgage and giving onions on loan.
A Samajwadi Party worker said that it was being done to register their protest against the high prices of onions. While some of them are keeping Aadhar Cards as mortgages, few other are keeping silver jewellery. Some of the shops are even keeping onions in lockers.
This move by the Samajwadi Party came after the Congress party workers in Lucknow sold onions at Rs 40 per kg outside the Assembly against the rising prices of the essential commodity. Shailendra Tiwari, the Congress leader said the rising price of onions is badly affecting the people and the government is not willing to listen to the pleas of the common man.
On November 20, Union Cabinet approved the import of 1.2 lakh metric tonnes of onions with regard to the high prices of the essential commodity.
