New Delhi: Today is the 88th birth anniversary of former President, popularly known as “Missile Man of India” Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. He was also a famous scientist was born on 1931 in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu.
Dr. Kalam was the 11th President of India who had been honoured with several prestigious awards including the Bharat Ratna. In 2010, the United Nations had declared the 15th of October as World Student’s day in honour of the Abdul Kalam.
As a mark of respect to the former president, various programmes on the occasion of World Students’ Day are held at national and international level. Prior to his death, he told, “When I am dead, do not declare a holiday. Instead, work a day extra.”
Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam suffered a cardiac arrest while delivering a lecture to the students of IIM Shillong on July 27, 2015. It is worthy to be mentioned that he was the man behind the research on nuclear missile projects in India.
