Delhi: The government revoked the OCI card of the New York based journalist Aatish Taseer. Taseer was blamed that he hid the key information that his late father, Salman Taseer, was a Pakistani.
Taseer on this matter said that he wrote to MHA seeking more time to respond as he was given only 24 hours to reply. Taseer who grew up in Delhi, wrote in an article that India is his country and his relationship is so instinctive that he had never felt the need to articulate it. Taseer now fears that he would not be allowed to enter India to visit his mother and grandmother.
MHA spokesperson denied that the revocation of Taseer’s OCI card has anything to do with his critical article about the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Time Magazine where he called Modi ‘Divider-in-Chief’. MHA stated that the author was given the time to reply or object regarding the OCI card but he failed to do so.
Shashi Tharoor also backed the writer saying that it was painful to see an official spokesperson making false claims.
