Zee News' Anchor Rohit Ranjan Arrested Over Airing of 'Doctored Video' of Rahul Gandhi : Check details
It is to be noted that at least 19 Congress workers were also detained in Noida for effigy burning and protesting outside the TV channel on Sunday.

Digital Desk: Zee News anchor Rohit Ranjan was arrested by Noida Police in Ghaziabad on Tuesday (5 July) for airing misleading clips about Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on the channel.

Moreover, a case has been filed against Ranjan at Noida Sector-20 Police Station.

The Chhattisgarh Police had sent a team earlier in the day to arrest Ranjan at his home in the Indirapuram area of Ghaziabad.

As a result of a complaint filed by Congress MLA Devendra Yadav, Ranjan has been charged with violating several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including Section 153-A (Promoting Enmity on the Grounds of Religion or Race), Section 295-A (Malicious Acts Intent to Hurt Religious Beliefs), Section 504 (Intentional Insult), and Section 505 (1)(b) [Intent to Cause Fear or Alarm to.

Ranjan reportedly opposed being arrested despite having a warrant from the Chhattisgarh Police, so the local police had to take him into custody forcefully.

Meanwhile, a team has been constituted for the investigation of the case. Furthermore, cases have been registered against Ranjan in several states for his statements against Gandhi.

"Chhattisgarh Police is standing outside my house to arrest me without informing the local police, is it legal," the journalist had tweeted in Hindi. Rohit also tagged UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, SSP Ghaziabad and ADG Zone Lucknow in his tweet.

The Raipur Police, responding to his tweet, said, "There is no such rule to inform. Still, now they are informed. Police team has shown you court's warrant of arrest. You should in fact cooperate, join in investigation and put your defence in court."

Ghaziabad Police also responded to the tweet and wrote, "The matter is in the cognizance of the local police, the Indirapuram police station is on the spot and action will be taken as per the rules."

The Congress alleged that in his special TV show, Ranjan allegedly distorted a statement made by senior politician Rahul Gandhi, which they say tarnished his image.

It is to be noted that at least 19 Congress workers were also detained in Noida for effigy burning and protesting outside the TV channel on Sunday.

On June 2, Ranjan misquoted Gandhi's video remark regarding the event in Udaipur. He quickly corrected himself and apologised on TV.

"Yesterday, on our show DNA, Rahul Gandhi's speech was taken in the wrong context by relating it to the Udaipur event. It was a human error for which our team is apologetic and we apologies for it," he wrote in a tweet.
