    7 IRB Personnel Suspended in Connection with Arms Looting Case in Manipur

    Digital Desk: Seven personnel of the India Reserve Battalion (IRB) have been suspended from their services following their alleged involvement in an arms and ammunition looting case. The incident, which took place in the 5th India Reserve Battalion, Chingarel, Imphal East district, has prompted disciplinary action against the accused individuals.

    According to the order issued by H. Balram Singh, Commandant, the suspension comes into immediate effect under Rule 66 of the Assam Police Manual Part-III. The personnel, including a Junior Commission Officer, have been suspended due to their grave negligence and dereliction of duties in connection with the looting case. During the period of suspension, the headquarters of the suspended personnel will be 5 IRB Bn HQ, Chingarel, and they are prohibited from leaving their headquarters without prior permission. However, they will be entitled to subsistence allowances as acceptable under the rules during this period.

    Sanatomba Singh, Rifleman M. Binod Kumar, Rifleman D. Ishak, Rifleman Md. Jabar Khan, and Rifleman Manoj Kumar Bhattara.

    The arms looting incident from the 5th IRB, Imphal East, occurred on the night of 13.02.2024 when an unruly mob seized the opportunity to raid the premises. Tragically, the situation escalated, resulting in the death of Okram Santosh alias Sana-ton (24) of Pangei Okram Leikai in Imphal East, with 10 others sustaining injuries when security forces intervened.

    It is to be noted that Manipur Police have arrested six people in connection with the case, recovering six sophisticated weapons and ammunition from them. The swift action taken by the authorities underscores the gravity of the situation and the determination to bring those responsible to justice.
