Digital Desk: The modified Goods and Services Tax Bill, 2023 was passed by the Arunachal Pradesh assembly.

This bill has 26 sections that modify various aspects of the Arunachal Pradesh Goods and Services Tax Act of 2017.

These changes include the addition of new rules, the replacement of current regulations, or the deletion of specific aspects.

The amendments, according to Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, are based on GST Council recommendations and would go into effect on October 1 of the same year.

"On the basis of GST Council recommendations, certain changes have been made to the APGST Act." These modifications will take effect on October 1, 2023. "These changes are primarily aimed at improving compliance and facilitation/simplification," DCM stated.

It is worth noting that the GST (Goods and Services Tax) is managed jointly by the national and state governments in India. Any modifications to the GST Act must be approved by both the federal and state governments.

The GST Council's proposed legal changes, which were approved by the Union Law Ministry, were incorporated into the Finance Act of 2023.

This implies that each state's GST Act must be updated in conformity with the GST Council's recommendations.

According to Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, the GST Council heard suggestions from different associations on the taxability of casinos, horse racing and internet gambling at its 50th and 51st meetings.

As a result, amendments to the 2017 Central Goods and Services Tax Act were recommended.
