Digital desk: The BJP is stepping up its campaigning ahead of the elections on April 19 and today (April 9) in Arunachal Pradesh, where Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is scheduled to speak at a rally.
In the 60-member assembly, the BJP has already won 10 seats without opposition; Singh's participation is intended to strengthen the party's position in the state. Singh's visit, which is planned to speak at a rally in Namsai district, highlights the party's resolve to maintain its leadership.
After Singh's rally, JP Nadda, the president of the BJP, is expected to arrive in the state capital Itanagar on April 10 to unveil the party's election manifesto. After that, Nadda would speak at a rally near the capital at Doimukh to gather more support for BJP candidates.
The opposition, which includes the Congress, National People's Party, Nationalist Congress Party, People's Party of Arunachal, Arunachal Democratic Party, and Lok Jana Shakti Party, has also announced its candidates for the elections, with the BJP fielding 50 candidates for the remaining assembly seats.
Prominent contenders include Union Minister of Earth Sciences Kiren Rijiju and current MP Tapir Gao, who are running from the parliamentary constituencies of Arunachal West and East, respectively. For the west and east Lok Sabha seats, the Congress is placing its hopes on PCC President Nabam Tuki and State Unit Vice President Bosiram Siram.
The BJP's campaign activities in the area, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to lead a large rally in Lakhimpur and hold a roadshow in Tinsukia and Dibrugarh today.
To further highlight the assembly elections scheduled for June 2 and the parliamentary elections scheduled for June 4, the state is getting ready for the elections.
In the meantime, Chief Minister Pema Khandu launched the BJP campaign with a rally from Pasighat, marking the start of the campaign in the state's eastern region. The atmosphere during the gathering was electric, and the audience listened eagerly to the chief minister's address.
