Digital Desk: The Arunachal Pradesh government made a major move by referring Yumsen Matey's murder case to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
As revealed by Deputy Home Secretary Likha Sampu, this decision was made in response to a proposal from the state police department.
Matey was shot dead by unknown assailants on December 15th at Lazu Circle in Tirap district, close to the Indo-Myanmar border, according to the case, Lazu PS FIR No. 10/2023.
Yumsen Matey, a well-known individual and the first graduate from the Ollo community was the MLA for the 56th Khonsa West Constituency.
The Arunachal Pradesh Home Department has forwarded the transfer request to the Government of India's Ministry of Home Affairs, requesting a thorough inquiry to bring the culprits to justice.
The transfer of the case to the NIA is considered a step towards resolving major concerns voiced by the opposition and the public about the safety of regional leaders and the need for a long-term solution to the insurgency problem.
Yumsen Matey's political career began with his tenure as a Congress MP after being elected in 2009, followed by ties with the BJP after 2014.
Furthermore, Matey's murder has not only created a spur in the state, but has also prompted requests for a high-level investigation into the incident and the broader issue of insurgency in the Tirap-Changlang-Longding (TCL) region.
