"The Northeast has been peaceful for the last nine years. However, we have witnessed violence in Manipur and it is painful for us,” Singh said.
Digital Desk: Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday urged the warring Meitei and Kuki groups in Manipur to have a heart-to-heart talk to end the trust deficit between the two sides, amid attempts to restore normality in the violence-ravaged state.
At an electoral rally in the poll-bound state of Mizoram, Singh stated that dialogue between the two communities in Manipur is necessary to improve the situation in the unstable state and that violence is never the answer to any issue.
"The Northeast has been peaceful for the last nine years. However, we have witnessed violence in Manipur and it is painful for us,” Singh said.
"Violence is never a solution to any problem. Heart to heart conversations are what we need.I appeal to both the communities to sit together and end trust deficit,” he added.
In response to questions about the ethnic conflict, he said, "I want to categorically say that the violence did not take place because of any political party. It occurred as a result of certain situations."
Singh accused Congress of trying to take advantage of the violent state of Manipur, saying, "Congress tried its best to do politics over the worsening situation in Manipur." The nation as a whole, including Mizoram and the Northeast, must be kept away from Congress' negative politics."
