Digital Desk: Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to visit Manipur on April 14 to bolster the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) campaign for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, as confirmed by state BJP leaders. Shah is expected to address a public gathering at the Hapta Kangjeibung ground in Imphal during his visit.

"Amit Shah is a prominent campaigner for the BJP, and his rally on April 14 is eagerly anticipated. Preparations are in full swing for his visit," stated a leader of the party's state unit.

Shah's last visit to Manipur was on May 29 last year, amidst ethnic tensions, where he remained for three days.

The district magistrate of Imphal East, Diana Khumanthem, confirmed granting permission for the public meeting, which is expected to be attended by Chief Minister N Biren Singh alongside Shah.

Manipur will go to polls in two phases, with the Inner Manipur seat voting on April 19 along with some areas of the Outer Manipur constituency. The remaining parts of Outer Manipur will vote in the second phase on April 26.

In the Inner Manipur constituency, the BJP has nominated state Education Minister Thounaojam Basanta Kumar Singh. However, the party has opted not to field a candidate in Outer Manipur, instead extending support to the Naga People's Front nominee K Timothy Zimik.
