    Digital Desk: Tragedy struck Kangpokpi district in Manipur as an ambush by suspected terrorists led to the untimely demise of two individuals, including an Indian Reserve Police (IRB) personnel. The incident occurred between Leilon Vaiphei and Kharam Vaiphei, leaving the community in shock and mourning.


    The deceased IRB personnel, identified as Henminlen Vaiphei, and the other victim, Thangminlun Hangshing, were in a car when the assailants launched the unexpected attack. A tribal organization representing the Kuki-Zo community condemned the assault, citing it as unprovoked.


    In response to this appalling act, the Committee of Tribal Unity (CoTU) declared a 48-hour shutdown across Kangpokpi district. The shutdown encompassed the closure of all business establishments and shops while restricting vehicular movement.


    Thangtinlen Haokip, CoTU's Information and Publicity Secretary denounced the aggression on the Kuki-Zo-dominated territory. Haokip expressed disgust over the ambush, labeling it as a heinous and barbaric action by Valley-Based Insurgent Groups. He urged the Central Government to involve the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in ensuring justice for the victims.


    The organization called upon the Central Government to take proactive measures to apprehend those responsible for the brutal attack. Additionally, CoTU demanded assurance from authorities to prevent similar incidents in Kuki-Zo-dominated areas.


    The emergency shutdown had a significant impact, with the closure of shops, businesses, and a halt in vehicular movement along the National Highway in Kangpokpi district.


    As investigations unfold, the community remains in mourning, seeking justice and assurance for their safety in the wake of this tragic event.
