Manipur tribal body urges govt employees to refrain from going to office
The department inquiry is going under Siamlalpaul and he has been asked not to leave the station without any prior permission.

Digital Desk: The Indigenous Tribal Leader Forum (ITLF) has urged the government employees of Churachandpur, Manipur to refrain from attending office from Monday over the suspension of the head constable who was allegedly seen with the armed men in a video. The tribal body has made the call to press for its demand for repealing the decision to suspend the head constable Siamlalpaul and immediate replacement of Superintendent of Police Shivanand Surve and Deputy Commissioner Dharun Kumar.

After a few hours of the suspension of the head constable on 15th February, a mob barged into the government housing complex of the DC and SP offices at Churachandpur. The mob set fire to the vehicles of the office and robbed government property. To stop this the security personnel started firing where at least 2 people lost their lives and 30 injured in the firing by security forces.

"More than 24 hours have passed since the ITLF gave an ultimatum to cancel the suspension order of head constable Siamlalpaul and replace Churachandpur DC and SP but so far, no cancelation or replacement has been done," the ITLF said in a statement.

It also added that "State government employees should refrain from going to office.. it will be their sole responsibility if any untoward incident happens."

Head constable Siamlalpaul was kept under suspension with immediate effect until further orders after a video of him with the armed men and sitting together with the village volunteers went viral on social media. "The tantamount to very grave misconduct being a member of the discipline police force," a police order said.

The department inquiry is going under Siamlalpaul and he has been asked not to leave the station without any prior permission. His pay and allowance have been restricted under the subsistence allowance admissible as per the rules.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh said that an FIR has been launched against one person for threatening to kill the SP and the damaged DC bungalow was being repaired.
