Mizoram Assembly Election 2023: PM Modi cancels poll campaign in Mamit
According to state BJP media chairman Johny Lalthanpuia, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will step in for Prime Minister Modi, but his campaign date is still awaited.

Digital Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has cancelled his scheduled campaign visit to Mamit in poll-bound Mizoram on Monday, October 30, a leader stated on October 28. According to state BJP media chairman Johny Lalthanpuia, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will step in for Prime Minister Modi, but his campaign date is still pending.

On the other hand, Lalthanpuia gave no explanation for why Modi's visit was called off. Nitin Gadkari, a key leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and union minister, is anticipated to campaign in the northeastern state on Monday ahead of the assembly elections scheduled for November 7, according to Lalthanpuia.

He claimed that Amit Shah would travel to Mamit and the southern region of the state. Voters from linguistic minorities, such as the Chakma, Bru, Mara, and Lai communities, who reside in the southern region of the state, are of special interest to the BJP. The saffron party has 23 nominees this time around, compared to its 39 seats in the 2018 assembly polls.

The party's platform, which calls for a resolution to the long-standing border conflict with Assam and 33% reservation for women in government positions, was unveiled by BJP president JP Nadda on Friday, October 27.

When will Mizoram hold its elections?

The 40-member Mizoram assembly will be held on November 7 and the counting of votes will be held on December 3.
