Pyniaid Sing Syiem appreciates the initiative of the Dorbar Shnong Umiam for organising this type of program to bring the spirit of unity among the Youth within the Village.
Digital Desk: The Office of Dorbar Shnong Umiam on 27 January 2024 concluded the Umiam Youth Week 2024.
The Closing Ceremony was attended by the Chief Executive Member of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council Pyniaid Sing Syiem as the Chief Guest in the presence of Rangkynsai Kharbuki MDC Umroi Constituency, the Members of the Executive Committee Dorbar Shnong Umiam among others prominent personalities.
Pyniaid Sing Syiem appreciates the initiative of the Dorbar Shnong Umiam for organising this type of program to bring the spirit of unity among the Youth within the Village.
Syiem mentioned the Administration of Elaka Act. in 1991 which gave power to the Dorbar Shnong to take care of and run the Village Level Administration, and the Umiam got it Sannat which is an Authority given by the Hima Mylliem. And it has become a full-fledged Village since 1987.
“Many Bad elements have entered into our society, and we heard through the news that there’s a lot of cases that never happened before now it starts in our beloved land, especially the involvement of drugs in our society,” Syiem said.
Syiem also Said, “We have witnessed the COVID Pandemic, and the increase of Drug users in our state it has become one of the pandemics”
Syiem urged the Youth to stay away from drugs and instead join hands with the Government to eradicate drugs from our society. "It's now or never; once and for all we will remove this pandemic of drugs that affect society and families. And it's only from the Youth that we can see hope and a bright future ahead. Joint hand collaboration among many groups including the Women Group or Youth Group within a village is the need of the hour to stop all the bad elements that affect the peace of the society."
One of the elders of the Village Bub Mawlong, tells how The Dorbar Shnong Umiam got its recognition in the year 1987, after a separation from Nongsder Village.
During the celebration, Momentous was given to all the Village elders who are over 60 years old. And the Award has been given to all the winners of the Youth Week 2024.
The Closing Ceremony was enthralled with the performance of Prominent Musician of Meghalaya including Kyntiewlin Mawphniang, Snow White, Banker Kharkongor, Wanbha, and DJ Daring to name a few.
