Ed Sheeran’s 2025 India tour to boost Meghalaya’s tourism scene…
Digital Desk: Popular international artist Ed Sheeran is all set to perform in India this year with his "+ – = ÷ x (Mathematics) Tour". The four-time Grammy award winner will embark on his most extensive Indian tour to date, performing across 6 Indian states. Among them, Meghalaya is the most awaited concert of the year and as this music festival will further strengthen and boost Shillong’s tourism industry once again.
Tour Dates and Venues:-
January 30: Yash Lawns, Pune
February 2: Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad
February 5: YMCA Grounds, Chennai
February 8: NICE Grounds, Bengaluru
February 12: JN Stadium, Shillong (6:00 PM).
February 15: The Leisure Valley Ground, which is in Delhi NCR.
Ticket Sales-
Tickets went on sale to the general public on December 11, 2024, at 4:00 PM on BookMyShow.
HSBC cardholders enjoyed an exclusive pre-sale window from December 9, starting at 12:00 PM to 11th December till 12:00 PM.
The available tickets for the Shillong show were general access passes which were sold out in 30 minutes, meaning there was a lot of excitement amongst fans within the region.
Shillong as the the “Rock Capital of India” and it has been home to some of the most popular music performances in the past. Over the years, global sensation such as Akon, Boney M, Europe and Bryan Adams have graced it stages. Despite this, in 2024 alone there were phenomenal shows such as Bryan Adams at JN Stadium days before tickets for Ed Sheeran went on sale.
The love for music is enjoyed the state for a long period, residents of Shillong embraced this gift of music during the insurgency in the Northeast, with Rock and Roll is deeply rooted amongst all the Northeastern people. In December 2007 the Scorpian band showed that they are still able to rampage playing live in Shillong as part of it’s Humanity World Tour provoking their legendary harmonics in the cold, misty mountainous state of Meghalaya and beyond.
Other bands which have performed in Meghalaya includes Megadeth, Steven Wilson, Poets of the Fall, Steve Vai, Switchfoot, MLTR, Hoobastank. What makes Shillong different is the people’s love for music and even the political personalities. The current Chief Minister Conrad Sangma , who is also an excellent guitarist and a passionate fan of the British metal band Iron Maiden, has played a vital role in arranging music festivals in the state along with Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh.

Meghalaya has effectively applied music as a tool to tourism, creating a unique identity among the other NE states. By hosting world-class celebrities like Ed Sheeran the state is expected to get thousands of people, flloding the state and bringing in a lot of revenue to the economy. This way the tourists also motivate the locals which in a way differentiates Meghalaya from neighboring states like Arunachal, Assam and Tripura that have begun attracting tourists with their scenic beauty.
Meghalaya’s slogan for tourism marketing couldn’t be more beautiful or accurate. Closely referencing to the Iron Maiden’s brands, the state encourages guests to “Run to the Hills,” and forget all “Fear of the Dark.” The opportunities of stunning landscapes, colourful traditions, and legendary music festivals have been making Meghalaya a unique value-added proposition on the India tourism map.
While the City is elated to host Ed Sheeran on February 12, 2025 in JN Stadium, Shillong will be the lighthouse of music and civilization because the harmonics of the City of pleasure extend beyond its borders.
