No citizen of India should oppose CAA after seeing what happened in Afghanistan: CM Sarma

Guwahati: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma urged Indians to support the Citizenship Amendment Act after considering the conditions of the minority in Afghanistan.

“No citizen of Indian should oppose CAA after seeing what happened in Afghanistan. I am sure there is now a better appreciation for the passing for the CAA.” said CM Sarma during Times Now Summit.

Further, reiterating the settlement of Hindus from Bangladesh, CM Sarma said, “Hindus have rights over India as it belongs to them. The word ‘Indian’ was coined in 1947, but for the past 7,000 years, our civilization was known as Hindus. I believe in civilization and this is a Hindu civilization. You cannot disconnect us from our roots.”

No one can deprive any Hindu who is in trouble to return to their motherland, CM Sarma said.

Moreover, taking a dig on Badruddin Ajmal, CM stated that illegal migrants had threatened the Assamese culture and identity.

“It started in 2006, when UDF under Badruddin Ajmal emerged in Assam and since then, the polity has fragmented. If immigrant Muslims have tried to assert their identity, indigenous Muslims, Hindus and Christians have equally had the right to counter communal politics.” said CM Sarma.

He added that some of the people in Assam are trying to make mullahs through madrassas, but he wanted to build a medical college and make them doctors.

Additionally, he stressed that politicians should have the courage to shut down the madrassas.
