    10 held for ‘selling’ newborn babies from adoption center, Ex deputy mayor’s daughter-in-law among t

    West Bengal: The West Bengal police on Saturday arrested the daughter-in-law of former Howrah deputy mayor Minati Adhikari for alleged selling of newborn babies from an adoption center in Salkia, West Bengal. Arrested Minati Adhikari is among the 10 people who were arrested for the same case.





    A senior official said, “After receiving complaints, Howrah city police Commissioner C Sudhakar led a raid on ‘Cradle Baby Centre’ late on Friday night and arrested 10 people, including a woman who was running the adoption center for last five years.”

    Reportedly, during the raid, several babies were recovered from the adoption center by the police.





    Further, the officer stated, “The non-governmental organization was selling babies in the guise of running the baby center.”





    In connection to it, a case has been registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual offenses (POCSO) Act against the accused.





    Moreover, the police stated that an investigation is underway to ascertain if the non-governmental organization (NGO) links with inter-state child-trafficking rackets.
