Digital Desk: The Chinese government has maintained around 60,000 Chinese troops across the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Eastern Ladakh, even during the harsh winter. India, too has maintained a similar number of troops to ensure that the Chinese counterpart does not plan any misadventure.
The Chinese Army has removed all of its summer training troops from the districts bordering Ladakh; however 60,000 Chinese troops are still deployed in the LAC. As stated to India Today by top government sources, the threat perception is there.

The sources said the Indian Army has also moved ahead its counter-terrorism Rashtriya Rifles Uniform Force formation in the Ladakh theatre to bolster the 14 Corps there. The sources said the Indian Army has also been maintaining forward deployment to counter any threat there. The Indian Army is also keeping the passes open near the LAC to ensure that troops can be moved forward quickly if required.
According to the Defence Ministry's year-end evaluation, the Chinese unilateral and provocative efforts to change the status quo by force in more than one location on the LAC have been adequately reacted. The two countries' military has been in talks at various levels to address the matter.
After continuous cooperative efforts, disengagement was carried out in a number of sites. Force levels have been sufficiently increased in places where disengagement is yet to occur. The Army's duty of safeguarding territorial integrity and countering China's People's Liberation Army (PLA) forces and military infrastructure has resulted in reorganization and realignment of forces due to threat assessment and internal deliberations.
While upholding the sanctity of India's claims, troops continue to deal with Chinese army in a firm, resolute, and peaceful manner.
