    Digital Desk: The first transgender person will shortly join the Delhi Municipal Corporation as a member. The first transgender person to be elected to the local council is Bobi, an AAP candidate who won the Sultanpuri ward.

    By a margin of 6,714 votes, Bobi defeated Varuna Dhaka, a candidate for the Congress.

    "I want to give credit for my success to those who fought so hard for me. I want to thank everybody. Now all I have to do is work toward local development "She spoke with ANI News.

    She ran as an independent candidate in the 2017 civic body elections and is a well-known figure in the Sultanpuri neighbourhood.

    In advance of the most recent elections, Bobi, a longtime social worker who has dedicated her career to empowering women, children, and persons with disabilities, waged a ferocious door-to-door campaign.

    Even before the Aam Aadmi Party was established, during the 2011 Anna Hazare Movement, Bobi was connected to it. She attributes the party's decision to select her as its candidate to her extensive background in social service.

    Bobi ran on a platform of beautifying her district and rooting out corruption in government.

    The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which has controlled the civic body for the previous 15 years, and the AAP are in a close race for control of the Delhi Municipal Corporation.
