AAP-Congress done deal, finalise 4:3 seat-sharing formula for Lok Sabha polls

Digital Desk: In a significant development for the Opposition in India, AAP and Congress declared seat-sharing agreements for Delhi, Haryana, Gujarat, Chandigarh and Goa for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections which is expected to take place in April-May this year.

Congress MP Jairam Ramesh confirmed the seat-sharing deal, dismissing rumors about differences over seat allotment. In a statement to ANI, Ramesh highlighted the Congress's eagerness to ally with the AAP, emphasizing that such political partnerships take time to materialize.

The joint press conference begins in the national capital which is poised to make the alliance official. Key figures from both parties, including AAP general secretary Sandeep Pathak and Congress leaders Mukul Wasnik, Arvinder Singh Lovely, and Deepak Babaria, addressed the media, solidifying their commitment to the partnership.

The current political scenario in Delhi sees all seven Lok Sabha seats held by the BJP, setting the stage for a competitive electoral battle. The four-three alliance between the AAP and Congress, with the AAP contesting four seats and the Congress three, reflects a carefully negotiated agreement to maximize their collective impact.

While the alliance in Delhi takes center stage, the political landscape extends to West Bengal, where discussions with the ruling TMC are still ongoing. Ramesh indicated that doors are open for an alliance with TMC, emphasizing the shared goal of defeating the BJP in the Lok Sabha polls.

The historical context of Lok Sabha elections in Delhi adds depth to the unfolding alliance. In 2004, the Congress won six seats and the BJP one, while in 2009, the Congress dominated, securing all seven seats. The AAP's emergence in 2015 marked a shift in Delhi's political dynamics, winning a staggering 67 out of 70 seats in the Assembly elections.

Beyond Delhi, the alliance may extend to Haryana, with indications that the Congress could offer one seat to the AAP. Similarly, the AAP's support for the Congress in the battle for the Chandigarh Lok Sabha seat demonstrates a collaborative effort to maximize their electoral gains.

In Gujarat, where the BJP holds sway, the ongoing seat-sharing talks suggest that the AAP has sought three seats from the Congress. While a final agreement is pending, the negotiations underscore the broader strategy of political realignment and cooperation among opposition forces.

As the AAP and Congress officially declared their alliance, the political landscape in Delhi transformed. The upcoming joint press conference is expected to outline the shared vision, strategies, and objectives of this partnership, setting the stage for a formidable electoral force to challenge the BJP's dominance in the national capital.
