Amid Break-Up Buzz, Nitish Kumar to Meet Party MLAs Today: Details Here

The allies have been in sparring mode since-the issues ranging from BJP leaders humiliating the Chief Minister, to Mr. Kumar's efforts to remove the Speaker, to the government's failure to crack down on protesters against the Agnipath scheme for the armed forces.

    Digital Desk: As rumours regarding
Nitish Kumar's split from the BJP reach a fever pitch, the Chief Minister of
Bihar will meet with his party's legislators today. If he dumps the BJP, the
Congress and RJD have said they are ready for a Grand Alliance 2.0.

    o
    The
Janata Dal-United gathering gets underway at 11 a.m. It is intended to make a
decision about the next steps formally. Mr. Kumar has been increasingly irate
with the BJP over a number of problems.

    o
    The
BJP said it would wait for Mr. Kumar's decision after contacting him twice on
Monday. According to sources, Amit Shah, the party's chief strategist,
contacted Mr. Kumar and spoke with him over the phone. On Monday, senior party
    officials met with Mr. Kumar.

    o
    The
Congress and Lalu Yadav's Rashtriya Janata Dal, currently under the leadership
of Tejashwi Yadav, have meetings arranged for today. If Mr. Kumar leaves the
BJP, both parties have stated that they are prepared to form an alliance.
Hindustan Awam Morcha and CPIML, two smaller parties, have also pledged their
    unqualified support for Nitish Kumar.

    o
    Since
his party was given just one seat in the Union cabinet after the 2019 general
election, Mr. Kumar's complaints against the BJP have gotten progressively
worse. Prior to the state elections, the BJP's support for Chirag Paswan
allegedly divided the vote, allowing it to become the dominant party in the
    state.

    o
    The
allies have been in sparring mode since-the issues ranging from BJP leaders
humiliating the Chief Minister, to Mr. Kumar's efforts to remove the Speaker,
to the government's failure to crack down on protesters against the Agnipath
    scheme for the armed forces.

    o
    In
the latest instance, Mr. Kumar-as sources close to him indicated-feels that the
BJP's Amit Shah has been trying to remote control the state government by
installing ministers close to him. The BJP, JD(U) leaders have alleged, had
even dictated who would get the party's sole berth in the Union cabinet-RCP
Singh-whom Mr. Kumar felt was Amit Shah's instrument.

    o
    The
overthrow of the Uddhav Thackeray government in Maharashtra, whose plotting was
openly linked to the BJP by Mr. Thackeray's opponent, Eknath Shinde, was what
precipitated the meltdown. According to sources, Mr. Kumar was worried that
Bihar would experience a similar turn of events. The JD(U) has criticized JP
Nadda's claim that "only the BJP will remain, regional parties will go."

    o
    RCP
Singh had to resign from the Union cabinet since he was not given the
opportunity to speak again in the Rajya Sabha, the upper parliament. After the
JD(U) accused him of wrongdoing over the weekend, Mr. Singh resigned from the
party, saying Mr. Kumar was envious of PM Modi but would not succeed.

    o
    Sources
claim that the public criticism of Nitish Kumar by BJP leaders has strained
relations between the two allies. But the partnership suffered a severe setback
as a result of the national party's support for RCP Singh and the dictation of
    stipulations.

    o
    Dissatisfied
with the BJP Nitish Kumar partnered with the RJD and the Congress two years
after Narendra Modi was named the NDA's nominee for prime minister. But he
broke it in 2017 after Tejashwi Yadav, his deputy at the time, was accused of
corruption and again joined forces with the BJP.
