Digital Desk: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu's latest election affidavit reveals a significant surge in his assets over the past five years. According to the affidavit filed along with his nomination papers from the Mukto (ST) Assembly constituency, Khandu's total assets stand at around Rs 277.89 crore, marking a substantial increase of Rs 145.80 crore since 2019.

Breaking down the figures, Khandu's movable assets amount to Rs 1,14,43,95,592, while his immovable assets are valued at Rs 163,45,78,832. This represents a notable rise from his 2019 declaration, where he reported movable assets worth Rs 1,15,96,66,545 and immovable assets worth Rs 16,12,75,356.

The chief minister's wealth portfolio includes Rs 25 lakh in cash, fixed deposits of Rs 1,04,51,08,096, six vehicles, 2025 grams of gold valued at Rs 1,26,36,000, and investments in mutual funds. His immovable assets encompass agricultural and non-agricultural land, and commercial and residential buildings, among others.

However, amidst this wealth accumulation, Khandu also disclosed liabilities amounting to Rs 10,27,63,717. Notably, he asserted a clean record, with no pending cases or criminal convictions against him.

Khandu attributed his income sources to various avenues, including interest on bank deposits, lease rents, agriculture, and his salary as Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh. Additionally, his wife's assets worth Rs 54.66 crore were also declared.

While Khandu's growing wealth underscores his financial prowess, it also raises questions about transparency and accountability in political leadership, warranting scrutiny, and accountability measures to ensure public trust and integrity in governance.
