Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma blames Congress for Shraddha Murder Case
Speaking to the media in Ahmedabad, Sarma attributed the Maharashtra Police's failure to file an FIR on Shraddha Walker's complaint in 2020 to the Congress' "appeasement politics."

Digital Desk: Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam, once again brought up the horrific murder of Shraddha in Mumbai on Monday as he campaigned for the BJP ahead of the elections in Gujarat.

Speaking to the media in Ahmedabad, Sarma attributed the Maharashtra Police's failure to file an FIR on Shraddha Walker's complaint in 2020 to the Congress' "appeasement politics."

He claimed that the episode of "love jihad" was the result of Congress' appeasement tactics and incited Aftab to keep torturing Shraddha until he brutally killed her. Shraddha's body parts were allegedly chopped up by Aftab into 35 pieces, kept in a refrigerator, and dumped in forests for close to a month.

"It has come to light that the previous Congress-Shiv Sena-led government did not pay any regard to it when Shraddha reached out to the police and made a report in 2020," Sarma added.

The police didn’t register Shraddha’s FIR after being intimidated. While in any state if anyone lodges an FIR citing a death threat, it becomes a criminal case, but it’s due to Congress’s appeasement politics that such incidents of love jihad were overlooked.”

“When a criminal case is filed, it becomes the property of the state. Even the victim doesn’t have permission to withdraw it. You can withdraw if it is a civil case. Because of Congress’ appeasement politics, a specific community of people became fearless of the law. Congress has created an eco-system in the country where love jihad incidents are random,” he added.

Sarma emphasized the requirement for a strict rule prohibiting love jihad in the nation. "Only if the Narendra Modi-led administration remains in power at the federal and state levels will a strong law against love jihad be enacted. Shraddha would still be alive today if Congress had taken action, according to the chief minister of Assam.

After being named the state's chief minister, Sarma, who has occasionally spoken out against "love jihad," stated that the state government has suggested a "Marriage Law" to prevent such occurrences.

He stated that under the proposed legislation, the bride and groom will be required to disclose their religion and income in official documents a month before the wedding, and that the legislation will apply to all communities.

"Love jihad does not only refer to a Muslim defrauding a Hindu. It could also happen among Hindus. "It is also a form of 'love jihad' if a Hindu boy uses dubious means to entrap and marry a Hindu girl," Sarma stated.

However, the term “love jihad”, often used by right-wing activists to describe relationships between Muslim men and Hindu women, is not an officially recognize syllable.

He also lambasted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his 'bearded' appearance, claiming that his statement on Rahul Gandhi only went viral due to Congress trolls. He had commented on Rahul Gandhi's recent appearance, saying that he now resembled Saddam Hussain.

"It was my personal opinion, and members of Congress became agitated." I am not comparing him to Bahadur Shah Jafar. "Congress must remember how they have made comments on the country's Prime Minister on occasion before teaching me what to say," Sarma retorted.
