    Bangladeshi minister's bizarre claim : Bengal, Assam & Tripura are part of Bangladesh

    Digital Desk : Bangladeshi Minister Mahfuz Alam made a provocative remark on Bengal,, Assam and Tripura. Mahfuz Alam, an advisor to Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus's government made a territorial claim saying that Indian states West Bengal, Assam and Tripura belong to Bangladesh.

    In a social media post he made this territorial claim. However, he deleted the post within two hours after receiving backlashes and sharp criticism from political leaders and citizens of India. In that controversial post, Alam wrote that these three states share similar culture with Bangladesh. He also presented a map to support his claim. He claimed that the creation of East Pakistan was a result of 'anti-Bengal attitude' of upper caste Hindus and 'Hindu extremists'. Mahfuz Alam further said that to ensure freedom from India they need to repeat 1975 and 2024 as India is adopting the program of colonization.

    Alam added that founder of Bangladesh Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members were killed in 1975. In the year 2024, Rahman's daughter Sheikh Hasina was removed from her position of Prime Minister. These two events have 50 year gap but nothing has changed so they need a new geography and system. In the same post he also wrote that they are ready to sacrifice their lives to end this battle.

    This remark has got strong reactions from Indian people. The controversial post has stirred tensions and raised questions about bilateral ties between the two countries. Officials of West Bengal, Assam and Tripura condemned the statement. Former Chief Minister of Tripura Bipul Kumar Deb said that this remark is an attempt to create tensions. Leaders have also requested the Indian government to discuss the matter with Bangladesh government. People of India demanded arrest of Mahfuz Alam for his controversial claim.
