Digital Desk: In a significant electoral showdown, the opposition parties have emerged victorious in four out of seven assembly seats where by-polls were conducted earlier this week. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) managed to secure three seats, solidifying the intense competition within the political landscape of India. The results for these by-polls, held in seven assembly constituencies spanning across six states, were declared today.

The seven constituencies in question were Bageshwar in Uttarakhand, Ghosi in Uttar Pradesh, Puthuppally in Kerala, Dhupguri in West Bengal, Dumri in Jharkhand, and Boxanagar and Dhanpur in Tripura.

    Jharkhand's Dumri Witnesses JMM Victory

In Jharkhand's Dumri, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) candidate Bebi Devi emerged triumphant, defeating her AJSU rival Yashodha Devi by a substantial margin of 17,153 votes. Debi Devi secured an impressive 100,317 votes, while Yashodha Devi managed 83,164 votes. The JMM is one of the 28 Opposition parties that have united to form the INDIA (Indian National Democratic Inclusive Alliance).

Samajwadi Party Retains Ghosi, Hails Victory for INDIA Alliance

In a crucial win for the INDIA alliance, the Samajwadi Party retained the Ghosi seat in Uttar Pradesh, with Sudhakar Singh securing 124,427 votes against his BJP rival Dara Singh Chauhan's 81,668 votes. Ghosi was previously held by Dara Singh Chauhan before he defected from the Samajwadi Party to join the BJP. Despite a high-profile election campaign, Chauhan couldn't retain the seat, with Congress supporting the Samajwadi Party candidate.

Congress Triumphs in Puthuppally; TMC Takes Dhupguri in West Bengal

In Kerala's Puthuppally, Congress leader Chandy Oomen clinched victory, defeating his CPI-M rival Jaick C Thomas by a substantial margin of 37,719 votes. Puthuppally has traditionally been a Congress stronghold and was previously held by former Chief Minister Oomen Chandi until his recent passing.

West Bengal's Dhupguri witnessed a victory for the Trinamool Congress (TMC) as Nirmal Chandra Roy secured 97,613 votes, defeating BJP candidate Tapasi Roy, who managed 93,304 votes. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee hailed the victory as a testament to the people's faith in the TMC, especially considering the seat's prior BJP representation.

BJP Retains Uttarakhand; Sweeps Both Seats in Tripura

In Uttarakhand's Bageshwar, the BJP successfully retained the seat, with candidate Parwati Dass defeating Congress' Basant Kumar by a margin of 30,842 votes in a closely contested battle.

Tripura proved to be a stronghold for the BJP, as the party secured victories in both Boxanagar and Dhanpur by massive margins. In Boxanagar, BJP candidate Tafajjal Hossain triumphed over his Left rival Mizan Hossain by 30,237 votes. Similarly, BJP's Bindu Debnath emerged victorious in the Dhanpur by-polls, defeating CPI-M's Kaushik Chanda.

These by-poll results have set the stage for heightened political rivalries, with the Opposition making significant gains and the BJP maintaining its dominance in some key constituencies. The political landscape in India remains dynamic, and all parties are gearing up for the upcoming state and national elections, which promise to be closely watched and highly competitive.
