Delhi MLAs get 66% salary hike! Know the complete breakdown here

From Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,500 per day, the allowance has been enhanced. The majority of Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party lawmakers represent Delhi (AAP).

Digital Desk: The President of India has accepted a request by the Arvind Kejriwal administration to enhance the salaries and benefits of Delhi's MLAs by 66%.

As a result, a Delhi MLA would now receive Rs 90,000 per month rather than the prior Rs 54,000. Their base pay was Rs. 12,000 up until this point, but it is now Rs. 30,000.

From Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,500 per day, the allowance has been enhanced. The majority of Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party lawmakers represent Delhi (AAP).

Some people are more equal than others, just like everywhere else. The chief minister, assembly speaker, and opposition leader will now receive Rs 1.70 lakh in total compensation each month. So far, it was Rs 72,000 a month.

The Delhi Legislative Assembly had adopted a motion in this regard, and it had been forwarded to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

"Talent is essential to the success of any institution, and talent includes a pay. Manish Sisodia, who was then the deputy chief minister, had said, "We should thank the public for the hike in compensation because we get our income from the taxpayers.

Delhi is the National Capital Territory (NCT), not a whole state, hence decisions about it are made by the President of India.

Because of this, the President was the one to accept the resignations of the two Delhi ministers, Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain, who were detained by government authorities on suspicion of corruption and money laundering. After 12 years, Delhi's MLAs have received a pay raise. Beginning on February 14, 2023, the new pay system will be in place.

The Government, which is governed by the BJP, a political adversary of the AAP, had originally proposed the increase in salary and benefits for Delhi MLAs. The AAP government had then bemoaned the fact that despite the raise, Delhi's MLAs will continue to get some of the lowest salaries in the nation.

The Kejriwal administration has asked the MHA to match the salaries and benefits of Delhi's MLAs with those of other states. According to the AAP government, states run by the BJP and the Congress pay 1.5 to 2 times more salaries and benefits.

Further benefits offered by many states to their MLAs include housing expenses, staff expenditures, allowances for the purchase of office supplies, vehicles, and driving allowances. The Delhi authorities claimed that this never occurs there. But the demand wasn't entirely satisfied.

    Comparison with other states

Salaries and allowances for MLAs vary across states.

Telangana: Rs 20,000 a month but with an annual constituency allowance of Rs 2.3 lakh and an additional accommodation allowance if not provided by the government.

Himachal Pradesh: Rs 55,000 a month with a constituency allowance of Rs 90,000, daily allowance of Rs 1,800, secretarial allowance of Rs 30,000 and telephone allowance of Rs 1,500.

Kerala: Rs 2,000 without any secretarial allowance but with a constituency allowance of Rs 25,000.

Andhra Pradesh: Rs 12,000 with a constituency allowance of Rs 1.13 lakh.

As per the Delhi government, the salary and allowances paid to MLAs in some of the states were as follows:

Uttarakhand ( Rs 1.98 lakh), Haryana ( Rs 1.55 lakh), Bihar (Rs 1.3 lakh), and Rajasthan (Rs 1.42 lakh).
