Digital Desk: Manik Saha is set to continue as the chief minister of Tripura for the second term. The 70-year-old was unanimously elected as the leader of the BJP's newly elected legislators in Tripura on Monday. He will take the oath in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 8.
The BJP won 32 seats in the 60-member state assembly elections conducted on February 16. Saha was chosen to lead the Northeastern state despite opposition from some newly elected legislators who wanted him to be replaced by the Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Pratima Bhoumik.
Before he became the chief minister last year, replacing Biplab Kumar Deb, Saha was a Rajya Sabha MP and the party’s state unit chief.
The swearing-in ceremony will be attended by BJP national president JP Nadda and several Chief Ministers from BJP-ruled states.
