Party (BJP) suspended national spokesperson Nupur Sharma from the party on
Sunday, purportedly because of controversial remarks she made about Prophet
Mohammed. The party also fired Naveen Kumar Jindal, the head of its Delhi
media, claiming that his opinions on social media vitiate communal harmony and
contradict the party's core values.
Adesh Gupta, the party's Delhi president, said
in a communication that "your main membership is immediately cancelled and
you are expelled from the party." "With immediate effect, you are
suspended from the party and from any obligations or assignments you may
have," it read. Jindal has been accused of frequently publishing
inflammatory comments and has previously tweeted offensive tweets that were
later deleted.
The decision came
shortly after the party published a statement distancing itself from her
remarks earlier today.
Their remarks created a
Twitter trend in certain nations calling for a boycott of Indian products. The
BJP is attempting to diffuse the situation amid Muslim demonstrations that have
erupted since the party's spokesperson, Nupur Sharma, made the remarks. After
Friday prayers, massive fights erupted in Kanpur's Pared, Nai Sadak, and
Yateemkhana areas, as some individuals attempted to compel businesses to close
their doors because of reportedly disrespectful remarks made by Sharma during a
recent TV debate.
The BJP declared that it
respects all religions and strongly condemns any insult to religious figures. According
to Arun Singh, the party does not endorse such persons or ideologies. ",
he explained "Every faith has flowered and flourished throughout India's
thousands of years of history. All religions are respected by the Bharatiya
Janata Party. The party vehemently condemns any religious personalities of any
religion being insulted." According to him, India's Constitution
guarantees every citizen the right to practise any religion of his or her
choice, as well as to honour and respect all religions.
"As India marks the
75th anniversary of its independence, we are committed to creating India a
great country where everyone is equal and lives with dignity, where everyone is
committed to India's unity and integrity, and where everyone benefits from
prosperity and progress," the BJP leader stated.
However, no incident or
comment made by Sharma during the debate was mentioned in the official
statement.
In Maharashtra's Pune, a
FIR was also filed against Sharma for allegedly hurting religious emotions with
her words. The case was filed at Kondhwa police station after Abdul Gafur
Pathan, a former Pune Municipal Corporation corporator, filed a complaint
(PMC). The Raza Academy has also filed a complaint against her with the Mumbai
Police Commissioner.
