On Monday, the Assam Legislative Assembly selected 20 students who will become interns for a period of one month at the assembly under the Speaker’s Research Initiative.
The Internship programme is a first of its kind in the parliamentary history of the state. Under this programme students from different parts of the state hailing from different colleges and universities will get an opportunity to research on selected will get an opportunity to research on selected topics related to the Assembly in an academic manner.
They will get access to the library and the archive in this regard and will make reports in their research findings. In this regard, they will be guided by an eminent journalist.
The Speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly Hitendra Nath Goswamu urged the young generation to opt for politics as a career in order to serve the society during the inaugural programme held at the Central Hall of Assam Legislative Assembly.
Speaking on the occasion, Debabrata Saikia, Leader of the Opposition explained the students about the importance of an opposition in a democratic system of government.
Media Adviser to the Chief Minister Hrishikesh Goswami laid emphasis on the fact that these kinds of initiatives improve self-confidence among the students. Dr. AK Singh, Additional Chief Secretary to the Govt of Assam suggested measures like publishing the research findings of the students like publishing the research findings of the students in the form of a book, for easy reference in the future and to attract more and more young people towards the parliamentary affairs.
