On Friday, senior politician Ghulam Nabi Azad announced his resignation from the party while taking potshots at the Gandhis and the party's top brass.

Azad explained his decision to leave the party in a letter to Congress president Sonia Gandhi, citing the marginalisation of veteran figures and the growing influence of a "coterie of inexperienced sycophants."

The former Rajya Sabha member also attacked Rahul Gandhi, blaming him for the Congress's declining political influence and dismal electoral results. He declared after his resignation that he will soon start his own party in Jammu and Kashmir.

"I'm going to start my business in Jammu & Kashmir soon. I'm not going to join the BJP," Azad stated.
