Votes from the opposition benches against the trust vote are currently being counted.

Digital Desk: The newly formed Chief Minister of Mahrashtra, Eknath Shinde-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government, on Monday, proved a majority in the Assembly floor test. Shinde crossed the majority mark (144) after getting 164 votes in their favour.

Votes from the opposition benches against the trust vote are currently being counted.

In the meantime, 16 Shiv Sena MLAs (from the Uddhav Thackeray group) were petitioned to be suspended for whip violations by Bharat Gogawale, the party's newly designated chief whip from the rebel party, on Monday.

Ajay Chaudhary of the Shiv Sena was removed as the legislative party leader on Sunday night by the newly appointed speaker of the Maharashtra Assembly, Rahul Narvekar, striking a blow to the Uddhav Thackeray camp only one day before the crucial trust vote.

In a letter, the Speaker's office approved Bharat Gogawale's appointment as the Shiv Sena's chief whip, replacing Sunil Prabhu, and reinstated the newly elected Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde as the party's legislative party leader.
