    Debbarma, in an attack on the BJP, stated that the Tiprasa tribals would not be enticed this time.


    Digital Desk: Tipra Motha chief Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma said on Friday that if Nagaland, Meghalaya, and Mizoram can get statehood, then a completely separate state for the Tiprasa people could be carved out of Tripura.

    Speaking at a rally in Khowai district’s Moharcherra, Debbarma said that if the Tiprasa people stay united for the next 10 months, greater Tipraland demand will be met. Notably, Tripura is set to hold elections in early 2023.

    “Tripura was not visited by Akbar or Aurangzeb, nor by British rulers, and the small territory remained independent. All of this occurred following the death of Maharaja Bir Birkram Kishore Manikya,” Debbarma said.

    Further, Debbarma urged the people to unite in the fight claiming that the Tiprasa people’s ambitions had not been met for the past 70 years.

    “Since I am advocating for Greater Tipraland, the family that gave Tripura to India has been labelled Jinna or “Pakistani,” Debbarma said. 

    “Those who keep blaming me or my family will receive an appropriate response in the 2023 assembly elections,” he added.

    “The chief minister of Assam used to claim that Nagaland will not get statehood, but today it is a state. Similarly, Meghalaya and Mizoram also state. If they could get the statehood, why would Tiprasa stay deprived?” he asked.

    Debbarma, in an attack on the BJP, stated that the Tiprasa tribals would not be enticed this time.

    “In the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections, the mighty party was defeated by a small regional party (Tipra Motha). If we (Tiprasas) stay united for the next ten months, Greater Tipraland’s demand will be met,” he stated.

    Tipra Motha won 18 of the 28 seats in the most recent TTAADC elections, while the BJP took 10 in a multi-corner battle.

    Tripura’s tribal outfits have been calling for a sovereign state for the indigenous population, asserting that their survival is at stake.

    Before joining India in 1949, Tripura was a kingdom ruled by the Manikya dynasty.

    The demand for a sovereign state is stimulated by demographic changes following Partition, which saw lakhs of Bengalis from then-East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) settle in Tripura, reducing indigenous communities to a minority.
