Golaghat : Sensation gripped in east Salmara tea garden when 22 tea labourers died after consuming local home made wine ‘sulai’.

Death after consuming local wine
The incident came to light when around 12 women died in a hospital in Salmara after complaining of stomach ache. Soon after more women got admitted with same complaint and soon then after the number of deaths increased to 22.
On investigation through medical reports it was found that the patients had consumed spurious liquor and then the group complained of dizziness and stomach ache.

Local wine ‘sulai’ kills tea labourers
The locals carried the people to the Shaheed Kushal Konwar Civil Hospital. as per reports of the locals, the group of labourers died on the way to the hospital and were declared brought dead.
The incident has spread sensation in the entire tea garden community as investigation is underway to find out the contents of the liquor.

The dead have been identified as follows – Draupadi Urang, Bel Bhumij, Agni Gowala, Bondhin Bauri, Santi Pujor, Binti Bhokta, Dulal Urang, Suklal Pujor, Atuwa Pujor, Shanti Pujor, Binati Bhakta, Lolita Pujor, Mina Pujor, Sunita Pujor, Dhatuwar Tanti, Sanju Orang, Bhakru Pujor, Pinki Bauri, Prabin Pujor, Mon Ghatowar, Septi Karmakar, Soneswar Gogoi, Ananda Borah and Suren Gogoi.
Wine seller Sanju Orang though detained had been admitted to the hospital, after which he died.
