Tinsukia : Tinsukia district’s Samiti of All Assam Bengali Youth Students’ Federation (AABYSF) has called for 24 hour Assam Bandh on November 3 (Saturday) over the gunning down of five people at the Sadiya Saikhowaghat, near Dhola-Sadiya bridge in the district on Thursday.

Six youths were sitting in a shop at Kherbari, about 4 km from Sadiya, were picked up by the gunmen in camouflage attire on Thursday at around 7:30 pm. The men were taken to the bank of the Brahmaputra river, asked to sit in line and were shot at, as per an eye witness, who escaped from the spot.

The victims were then lined up near Sadiya Saikhowaghat, near Brahmaputra river and shot at by suspected militants who took them from the shop.
The victims have been identified as Shyamal Biswas (60), Ananta Biswas (18), Abhinash Biswas (23), Subal Das (60) and Dhananjay Namasudra (23).

However initially Assam police had suspected this killings to be the handiwork of the banned outfit, ULFA-I, but later through a mail, the outfit denied their involvement in the sensational Dhola-Sadiya killings.
A total shut down was observed in Tinsukia on Friday morning during the 12 hour Assam Bandh called by the AABYSF.
AABYSF president, Dipak Dey has condemned the killings and have urged everyone to work in unison for bringing peace back in the region. He also mentioned that no external forces can divide the unity of Assamese-Bengali community and that everyone one should stay away from any kind of communal outbreak.
