AIUDF demands 10 percent reservation for Muslims in Assam govt jobs

Digital Desk: The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) has ramped up its call for a 10 percent reservation for Muslims in Assam, citing socio-economic disparities within the community as justification. On Tuesday, AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam emphasized that Muslims in Assam face significant economic hardships and argued that targeted support through government jobs and schemes is necessary for their upliftment. 

"Muslims in Assam are part of the economically weaker sections," Islam stated, reinforcing the demand for the reservation.

Islam also challenged the accuracy of population statistics provided by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. He pointed out discrepancies between Sarma’s figures and the 2011 Census, which recorded the Muslim population at 34%, with a potential increase of 2-3% since then. "The Chief Minister's claims do not align with actual data," Islam contended.

Additionally, Islam criticized the state government’s handling of recent rape cases, alleging selective reporting and minimization of incidents involving Muslim perpetrators. He condemned the government's response to the Dhing gang rape case, particularly the death of an accused in custody, suggesting a possible cover-up. "We demand justice and a thorough investigation into all cases," he concluded.
