All Assam Tribal Sangha (AATS), CCTOA welcomes eviction drive of tribal belt

Digital Desk: The Coordination Committee of Tribal Organisations of Assam (CCTOA) and All Assam Tribal Sangha (AATS) support the eviction drive at the Purbanchal Cement Company factory in Sarutari, which is part of the Sonapur revenue circle. According to AATS Secretary General Aditya Khakhlari, the Purbanchal Cement Company built a factory and carried on cement production using a duplicate registration document that changed the ownership of 100 hectares of unsurveyed land in the South Kamrup Tribal Belt at Sarutari under the Sonapur revenue circle.

He stated, "To evict this factory, we organised several protest activities and also submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister of Assam for his intervention. A case WP(c) 4761/2021 was filed at the Gauhati High Court in 2021. And on September 6, 2022, it was decided that Kamrup (M) DC and the circle officer of Sonapur Revenue Circle should look into the situation and file a lawsuit. The Kamrup (M) administration has now decided to evacuate the area in response to the court's judgement from April 28, 2023. And we applaud this choice. We also call for the release of the tribal belt and the eviction of the cement company's main plant.”
